The People's Democratic Party, PDP, suffered massive defection on Saturday as multitude decamped from the party to join the All Progressives Congress, APC, at Afia and Kyado in Ukum Local Government.
GrassrootsAfrica report that a 2-term former House of Representatives member for Katsina-Ala, Ukum and Logo Federal Constituency, RT Hon. Emmanuel Memga Udende while receiving the defectors at different locations noted that Ukum people have not been given fair share in Benue politics despite their immense contributions to the development of the state and solicited their support to enable him achieve a greater hight politically.
Udende who is the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs assured the decampees of equal opportunities in the party and urged them to use their voter's card to discard PDP completely in order to right the wrongs.
In his remarks the APC State Secretary and former Majority Leader, Benue State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Paul Biam, tasked Ukum people on unity to achieve peace and development said he would continue to cooperate with Hon. Udende in the interest of the APC, Ukum and Benue State at large.
Biam pointed out some tangible projects of Hon. Emmanuel Udende in the past including mounting of Electricity poles, youth employment and empowerment and advised Ukum people to make the senatorial hopeful their political leader for more transformation and to recover what they have lost.
While urging the people to avoid politics of bitterness and focus on issues, Rt Hon. Biam advised them to forget the immediate gains of the PDP but consider long term dividends that the APC would avail them.
He stressed the centrality of Ucha and Mbaterem in Ukum politics, saying their defection to APC marked the end of PDP in Ukum Local Government.
In their goodwill messages, elders Ikya Mande and Ucha Tsafa who spoke at Afia and Kyado respectively observed that Hon. Udende had been in politics for a long time but on a wrong platform. So now that he has redressed his steps, he would have their blessings and urged him to go ahead and contest for Zone A senate as his victory for the senatorial race was hundred percent assured.
The APC Chairman of Lumbuv Council ward in Ucha district, Mr Samuel Orya Adi received the defectors led by Mr Atindiga Yoosu into APC while Gideon Tyozenda led Mbaterem decampees at Kyado.
Responding on behalf of the defectors at Afia and Kyado, elder Atindiga Yoosu and Hon. Gideon Tyozenda explained that their decision to dump PDP was due to the injustice done them by the PDP led State Government particularly the disbandment of Motorcycle in the area which has truncated their economic life.
Other dignitaries who graced the events were APC woman leader in Ukum Local Government, Mrs Kpaadoo Utim, Ukum APC State House of Assembly hopeful, Hon. Jonathan Akpene among others.
