Niger State government hereby reaffirmed the existence of the task force on the ban on commercial motorcycle operators (Okada) especially in Minna metropolis.
In addition, the state government reviewed the enforcement process of the task force,, illegal motor parks,youth restiveness as well as general security matters.
A statement issued by the Hon Commissioner of Information and Strategy Alhaji Muhammad Sani Idris stated that, "Okada operation and illegal motor parks remained banned".
The statement added that the state government also notes with concern the provocative action of some unscrupulous elements trying to undermine the activities of the members of the task force in the recent past and warned that it would not hesitate to deal with anyone trying to truncate the operations of the task force henceforth.
"The review also reiterated that private motorcycles should endeavor to maintain operations within the stipulated time of 6am- 9 pm," he stated
The commissioner added that the task force was fortified as the Director General Traffic Vanguard is drafted to join enforcement committee and intensity the arrest and prosecution of traffic violators without fear or favour.
Furthermore, the task force has been mandated to collaborate with state Commander NDLEA to monitor and arrest all category of drug peddlers around Minna metropolis.
The statement added that, "all motorcycles arrested for violating the rules be treated as contained in the Executive order I.e #10,000 for first offence, #20,000 for second offence and a fine of #50,000 on third arrest include forfeiture of the motorcycle to serve as deterrent to others".
The committee enjoined , the state Commissioner of Police to intensity efforts towards tackling youth restiveness as well as review the composition of security personnel working with the task force for maximum success.
Meanwhile, the state government appealed to the citizens of the state especially the residents of Minna metropolis to continued to support government policies and programmes as they are geared towards the protection of lives and properties.
